The Foreign Ministry is always ready to help Indonesian citizens abroad. This week it secured an insurance payment of US$82, 175 in compensation for the death of two migrant workers in Doha, Qatar.

The family lost Yanto Risdiyanto and Nida Farid, both husband and wife, in a 2008 accident in Doha.

The Foreign Ministry's director for migrant protection, Teguh Wardoyo awarded the insurance money to beneficiaries in Jakarta on Tuesday. "The insurance claim was secured on April 8 after several month-long court trials over the accident," said Teguh.

This is not the first time the Directorate for Migrant Protection and Legal Assistance has helped Indonesian workers abroad. Early this year, it helped secure the repatriation of a migrant worker trapped in Gaza during the conflict. Umi Saodah, a housemaid, was sent home after working for eight years in Gaza.

Labor Ministry data shows that half a million Indonesians were working in the Middle East at the end of 2008.
