Surabya (ANTARA News) - The Malaysian government since January until March this year has deported at least 5,575 Indonesian migrant workers from the country.

Data from Foreign Affairs Ministry`s Indonesian Nationals Protection Directorate and Indonesian Legal Board (BHI) which was made available to Antara here on Saturday indicated that of the 5,575 deported workers, 2,948 remained at the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur and several consulate general offices in Malaysia.

Foreign Affairs Ministry`s Indonesian Nationals Protection Directorate and Indonesian Legal Board (BHI) spokesman Teguh Wardoyo said the deportation cost for the Indonesian migrant workers was borne by the Malaysian government.

"The government of Malaysia paid the deportation cost of the Indonesian migrant workers trough several points such as Tanjung Pinang, Batam, and Nunukan," Teguh Wardoyo said.

He added that from those points, the problematic workers would be sent to the provincial capitals of their origin at expenses of the Indonesian government.

Teguh Wardoyo said that 87 other Indonesian migrant workers had also been deported from several other countries besides Malaysia since January to March this year.

They were deported because of several cases including maltreatment, sexual harassments, rape, and inhuman working conditions.

In 2008, 854 cases of the migrant workers were solved and a total of Rp3.5 billion of their money was saved, and in 2007, 973 cases were solved.
