Sales Kiosks evicted in South Jakarta The Jakarta Post , Jakarta | Tue, 08/04/2009 10:50 AM | Jakarta The South Jakarta municipality administration deployed hundreds of public order, police and military officers to tear down dozens of kiosks alongside Jl. TB Simatupang on Tuesday.
"There are so many vendors setting up illegal kiosks; it gives the area a bad image,'' commented South Jakarta Mayor Syahrul Effendi, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
The eviction was met without resistance from the vendors; an unexpected reaction given that such operations usually trigger more conflict. However, this incident occurred in an orderly fashion.
The administration is now planning to tear down dozens of illegal kiosks in Cilandak, Kebayoran Lama, Jagakarsa and Pasar Minggu. (dre) |
