A woman and her Indonesian maid were yesterday savaged by two rottweilers in their Fairview Park home in Yuen Long when they tried to prevent the dogs from attacking a mechanic who had come to take the family car for repairs.

The woman, surnamed Chan, 36, and helper Asir, 32, managed to escape to a room upstairs from where they called for help.

Firemen had to rescue the two women by using an extension ladder. Chan had injuries to a forearm and fingers and the helper also suffered forearm injuries.

The two were admitted to Pok Oi Hospital.

The dogs - a female aged eight and a male aged 11 - were subdued by officers of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department and taken to their kennels.

The rottweilers were among five dogs kept by the family of five.

The house owner, surnamed Hui, said he may not keep the dogs after what happened.

A neighbor said the dogs barked loudly at her when the family first moved in but stopped as they became more familiar with her.

In July 2007, a golden retriever bit his 60-year-old owner in their Tseung Kwan O home, and she had to have an arm amputated.

The dog was later adopted.
