Potato grower's shock find in Tebobon river

Kota Kinabalu: A vegetable planter was shocked to find the body of a woman floating in the river next to his land at Kg Tebobon in Menggatal, Tuesday. Rosli, 50, was clearing the plot to plant potatoes when he noticed something in the water at about 11am.

"I realised that it was a body and ran to get help from other villagers," he said. Police were alerted. The woman, who is believed to have drowned, was identified as Mudia Sulatan from Kg Loboh I, about two kilometres upriver.

The deceased's 24-year-old son, Aide Lunsing, said the last time he saw her was last Sunday evening.

"I went out to look for my mum on Tuesday É I had an uneasy feeling about her," he said, pointing out his mother had on several occasions in the past gone out for gatherings at friends' houses and returned home only after several days.

He got the news about a woman being found in the river from villagers soon after the body was found. A police team led by Insp Vinges was at the scene to investigate.

Meanwhile, an Indonesian maid survived a 10ft drop from the first-floor balcony of a house in Taman Suria, Kepayan, Tuesday.

The 27-year-old maid was wiping the windows when she slipped at about 10am. Paramedics came shortly after the houseowner made a call and the maid was taken to the hospital. She was discharged, albeit a little shocked, later the same day.
