ATKI Jakarta: "This is a very brutal attack against the Indonesian women and girls"
Indonesian girls were smuggled, trafficked, and enslaved in Malaysia. The Association of Indonesian Migrant Workers (ATKI) urged the government of Indonesia to immediately release victims of abduction that are still enslaved in Malaysia.
The cases of the girl's abduction that had been smuggled and trafficked from Indonesia to Malaysia had made many people angry. The under-age girls were reported had been abducted and smuggled to Malaysia to be enslaved in sex industry in Entikong. Even though the perpetrators were having been caught, but the work of government, especially the police still have not finished. It's very unbelievable if the perpetrator of this barbaric crime were only two peoples.
According to Retno Dewi, the Coordinator of Information Bureau of the Association of Indonesian Migrant Workers in Jakarta (ATKI Jakarta), this is an organized crime, done by syndicates that not only had a plenty resources to conducts their crime but also had a wide network that probably also connected with some government officials. As been reported one of the victim was abducted from Lampung Province (Southern Sumatra) then transferred to Pontianak (West Kalimantan) and smuggled to Malaysia through Entikong. "These all happened only in a few days, so we can imagine how big their network is?" Retno said.
Retno said that the police must not just stop by arresting the two perpetrators or only by calling to people to give extra attention and careful supervision of their children or girls. Police and government of Indonesia in general should take a concrete action by playing their constitutional role to protect the life of the people without exception.
The police are taking action immediately with the investigation in order to dismantle the network of the perpetrator as well as soon as possible to free victims of others who are still remaining. The President Yudhoyono must urge the Malaysian Government to make extra investigation of their official that potentially involved in the case.
Based on information from one of victims, sometimes, the perpetrators forced victims to give sexual services as swag to some Malaysian officials. The alleged perpetrators have proximity had relation to the government official of Malaysia. Even some of the Malaysian apparatus had take part on the crime.
Retno predicted that at this time, some of the abducted girls that had not been released are in very worst situation and suffer by intention of the pressure. It is the nature of the organized crime to intensify and to tighten their security and restriction to prevent and anticipate the development of the police investigation. Retno also warns that during this condition, those perpetrators are willing to pay in any cost to secure their business.
"We must understand that this case shows the existence of a very brutal attack against the Indonesian women, especially girls who was mostly under-18," Retno firm. "We are all angry and can not accept the fact if we have relatives who are uneducated as in the abduction victims, we will be far more angry if no concrete steps made by the Indonesian government to immediately wipe out the entire network to the crime syndicate radical," Retno said .***
