Indonesian worker Umi Saodah may have successfully returned from the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, but 14 other workers are reportedly still missing in the tumultuous region, a Foreign Ministry official said Wednesday.

"We are currently trying to identify the 14 individuals, in cooperation with placement company PT Amira Prima, who sent the workers to Jordan," said Teguh Wardoyo, the Foreign Ministry's director for the protection of Indonesian citizens abroad, as quoted by kompasonline.com.

He added efforts to locate the missing workers were also underway by staff at the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo.

"We have also asked local authorities to cooperate with us, including the Palestinian National Authority, the Palestinian Red Crescent and the International Committee of the Red Cross to help gather information on their whereabouts," he said.

"Missing persons reports for the 14 individuals have been spread out, but it hasn't been easy due to the ongoing violence. It may have been reported that [Israeli soldiers] have pulled back, but in fact the situation there is still in turmoil." (amr)
