Jakarta, Feb 6 (ANTARA News) - Around 100,000 Indonesian workers predicted to be deported from Malaysia this year would be done in stages and not all at once, Manpower and Transmigration Minister Erman Suparno said.

"If the deportation really happens, they will be repatriated in stages," the minister said here on Friday.

Earlier, Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia Dai Bachtiar said in 2009 it was predicted that around 100,000 migrant workers from Indonesia will have to return to their home country.

Erman said he had consulted this with Dai Bachtiar. The number of workers employed at the sector of manufacturing amid declining order of about 30 percent will have to be trimmed.

Practically, around 100,000 Indonesian workers in this sector will be affected by a mass layoff, as their working contract have to be terminated before their expiry.

Erman further stressed that the process of their repatriation will not be conducted all at once, as they have to return on the condition of their respective manufacturing company.

"If this really happens, I just remind that the rights of the workers should be met in line with their working contract. We are negotiating with relevant agency to provide the returnees with transports cost to their home country," he said.

In the meantime, workers employed in the sector of plantation and construction remain unaffected by mass layoffs. The activity of construction sector in Malaysia was still going on, as their projects have to be completed in multy years.

To all Indonesian migrant workers who have to go home following a mass layoffs, Manpower and Transmigration Ministry only prepared a program designed to overcome unemployment in cooperation with People`s Welfare Coordinating Ministry through PNPM (National Program on Self-reliant People`s Empowerment) and KUR (Peoples` Business Credit) program.(*)
