Tanjungpinang ( Berita ) : The Malaysian government has deported 3,125 Indonesian illegal migrant workers in January 2009 through Sri Bintan Pura harbour, Tanjungpinang, capital of Riau Islands (Kepri) province, a spokesman said.
"Malaysia repartriated thousands of illegal workers every month," Ispaisah, head of the border crossing section of the Tanjungpinang Immigration office said on Sunday.
The deported 3,125 illegal workers consisting of 2,108 men, 955 women, and 62 children, the immigration official said, adding that the Malaysian government deported Indonesian illegal migrant workers almost every day.
On January 31 alone, they repatriated 152 Indonesian illegal workers comprising 95 men, 55 women and two children, he cited.
The illegal workers were deported through Malaysia's Pasir Gudang port to Indonesia's Sri Bintan Pura harbour, and later given temporary shelter at Jl. Transito here before boarding a ship to their villages, he said. "Almost all of the illegal workers who have been deported did not have any legal papers," he said, adding that they had been jailed in Malaysia. (ant )
