A COUPLE were hauled to court on Tuesday for causing hurt to their Filipino maid last June.
Angela Tay Yan Hwee, 38, a housewife, is accused of pulling the hair of Ms May Shiela Ornales Juanico, 33, and also pushing her forehead with her finger at their Strathmore Avenue home on June 17 last year.
Her husband, Gideon Yip Yick Weng, 31, who is self-employed, allegedly covered the maid's mouth to stop her from screaming.
He is then said to have grabbed her neck and pushed her into the master bedroom and later, slapped her once between 11am and noon that day.
Both are represented by Mr Darrell Low.
The couple will appear in court again on March 30.
If convicted, each of them faces a jail term of up to three years or a fine of up to $7,500 or both.
