Kuala Lumpur - Malaysian police have detained an Indonesian maid for allegedly attacking her 65-year-old employer in the second suspected case of violent attacks by maids in one week, a news report said Wednesday.

The alleged victim's son, Lim Cheng San, noticed that his mother had swollen eyes and bruises on her arms early Monday, a day after she was left alone in the home with the 35-year-old maid, the Star daily said.

Lim said he questioned the maid, who claimed that the swollen eyes were due to medical ointments rubbed on the face. He said he became suspicious, and lodged a police report leading to the maid being detained for 14 days for questioning.

"The doctor said the swollen eyes could have been caused by being hit on the head with a blunt object" Lim said, adding that the doctor also found bruises which he did not rule out coming from a beating.

The alleged attack is the second case of abuse by a maid in a week, both cases happening in the northern Penang state. On Thursday, a 42-year-old factory worker and mother of twins suffered a fractured skull and ribs, and needed some 100 stitches after she was attacked by her maid with a wooden stool, mortar and knife. The suspect in Thursday's attack has also been remanded pending investigations.
