PURWOKERTO, C. Java: Sixty-one prospective migrant workers have reported a labor outsourcing agency for failing to send them to Dubai.
One of the victims, Lukman Hakim, said he had paid Rp 2 million (US$169) to a company employee named Subagyo, to cover passport and other administrative costs.
Lukman, a resident of Ajibarang village, Banyumas, said he was promised by Subagyo, from Sokaraja, Banyumas, a monthly salary of between Rp 5 million and Rp 7 million for a job in a project in Dubai.
"But until now, it's still unclear when we'll go to Dubai. We've checked the company's address in Jakarta, but we found it was fake," the 27-year-old said.
Sokaraja Police chief Adj. Comr. Sopinah confirmed the report, saying Subagyo and his accomplice, Widyo Asmoro, had been detained for allegedly duping the prospective migrant workers.
"We've arrested them for cheating the workers. They said they gave the money to the company," Sopinah said. - JP
