The Indonesian government is proposing a special joint commission to solve problems related to its citizens working as undocumented migrants in Syria, kompas.com has reported.

"I told Syria's prime minister Muhammad Naji Otri about the idea and he voiced his commitment to overcoming illegal worker problems in good ways," President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono told journalists after the meeting.

Otri, speaking with Yudhoyono, said about 7,000 illegal migrants were currently working in his country.

"We have drafted an agreement on manpower and will sign it during a meeting between representatives from Indonesia and Syria," he said.

The Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration has reported 75,000 Indonesian who work without documents in Syria have asked for legalization with help from the ministry. (ewd)
